A village within a country park
Much of old Albury, including a small cluster of houses and its church, lies inside the grounds of Albury Park, a country estate covering well over a hundred acres of terraced gardens and woodland.
Gardens laid out for a duke
The estate's terraced gardens were laid out in the seventeenth century for the Duke of Norfolk, and the main house was later reworked substantially by the architect Pugin in the mid-nineteenth century.
A wider parish of scattered hamlets
The civil parish stretches beyond the old village itself to take in Albury Heath, Farley Green and Little London, smaller hamlets spread through the surrounding countryside.
